Ohio Wesleyan University presents the Merit Scholarships Program is offering scholarship opportunities to persons who are interested in embarking on a degree program at the Institution. Ohio Wesleyan is open towards both merit-based scholarships, and need-based monetary assistance to foreign students.

There will be no added application necessary for the merit-based scholarships as all candidates for admission are automatically considered. Nevertheless, if you desire to apply for need-based monetary assistance, please complete the ISFAA (International Student Financial Aid Application).

Eligibility for Merit Scholarships Program

To be eligible for Merit Scholarships Program, applicants must satisfy the requirements below:

  • English Language Proficiency:  it is required that all foreign students verify their English proficiency. Please see the several English Proficiency options.  The University holds the right to require added English language guideline, if necessary, after arrival.
  • International Baccalaureate Scholarship  at Ohio Wesleyan is granted to foreign students who have displayed a strong performance in the IB curriculum. First choice will be offered to full diploma scholars, but individuals with IB certificates only will also be considered. The recommended minimum in the IB is 30 points.
  • Cambridge A Levels Scholarship at  Ohio Wesleyan is granted to foreign students who have displayed a great performance in the Cambridge A Levels curriculum. First choice will be given to scholars taking the full A Levels program with exams, but individuals with Cambridge A Levels individual courses only will also be considered. The recommended minimum in the A Levels are marks of C and B.
  • International Methodist Scholarship at Ohio Wesleyan is granted to enrolled foreign students who either hail from a Methodist background or who have attended a Methodist secondary school or college before coming to OWU.
  • Bashford International Scholarship at Ohio Wesleyan serves as a general foreign scholarship to admitted foreign students who are not suitable for our other 3 more precise international scholarships listed above.
  • Citizens of Paraguay Rutherford B. Hayes Scholarship.  Ohio Wesleyan University will grant one complete tuition scholarship, and about five $40,000 scholarships to five enrolled Paraguayan students who satisfy at least a B average (3.0/5.0 Paraguay curriculum or 3.0/4.0 US curriculum).  Students must also satisfy the minimum TOEFL requirement of 79 (6.5 for IELTS).

How to Apply for Merit Scholarships Program

To apply for Merit Scholarships Program, applicants should follow the guidelines below:

  1. Submit the  OWU Online Application or the  Common Application .  No application fee.
  2. An essay should be submitted with the Common Application or our OWU Online Application.
  3. English Language Proficiency:  All foreign students are required to validate their English proficiency.  Please check the several English Proficiency options.  The institution holds the right to demand added English language guidelines, if needed, after arrival.
  4. SAT Scores/ACT Scores are NONCOMPULSORY for all applicants.  Applicants will not be put at a disadvantage if they are incapable of submitting standardized testing.  If you want to submit your testing, we would be delighted to consider your scores (SAT code 1594, ACT code 3316).  Applicant may self-report scores but we will need official ones at the enrollment point.  SAT/ACT scores are NOT necessary for Transfer Students.
  5. Academic Records can be submitted via the Common Application website by the school or by email if forwarded directly from the school under their official email address. The official records should comprise of each subject you study, and the academic grade/mark or other evidence that you completed the course adequately. Your record should comprise of a clarification of the grading system. They should be submitted in English or in the original language together with a certified literal translation.
  6. 1 recommendation  letter is required from a coach, teacher, or principal who is acquainted with your latest academic performance. Submit through the Common Application website. Otherwise, you can send through email to [email protected].
  7. Certification of Finances or the International Student Financial Aid Application is essential (see below).
  8. Interviews:  while interviews are not essential for students, we are open to the opportunity to get to meet you better through a personal interview – a conversation with a counselor.  OWU offers numerous options for interviews:
